Question 1

Which Cambridge hotels are best for families?

Accepted Answer

All three hotels in this category — Travelodge Cambridge Central, Hyatt Centric Cambridge, and Turing Locke — carry a Family Friendly tag, but they suit different family needs. Travelodge Cambridge Central is the best pick for families who want budget value and easy access to activities like cinema and bowling right on the doorstep. Turing Locke is the strongest option for families with a car who want space, quiet, and self-catering facilities, while Hyatt Centric suits families visiting north Cambridge colleges or nearby business parks.

Question 2

Which Cambridge family hotel has the best parking?

Accepted Answer

Travelodge Cambridge Central offers the best-value parking at just £7 per 24 hours when you validate your ticket at hotel reception — exceptional for Cambridge. Turing Locke has on-site paid parking at £10–20 per 24 hours, with dedicated bays directly opposite the entrance. Hyatt Centric Cambridge has visitor parking bays opposite the hotel, but payment is by app or machine (the machine was out of order at our visit), so download the app before you arrive.

Question 3

Which Cambridge hotel is best for families who want self-catering?

Accepted Answer

Turing Locke is the only aparthotel in this category and the clear choice for families wanting self-catering facilities. It is purpose-built for extended stays, with a quiet and safe environment and smooth pavements and green space nearby. Bear in mind it is on the northern edge of Cambridge and not within walking distance of the city centre or train station.

Question 4

Are any of the family-friendly Cambridge hotels close to things for kids to do?

Accepted Answer

Travelodge Cambridge Central is the standout here — Cambridge Leisure Park puts a cinema, Tenpin bowling, Nando's, Five Guys, Wagamama, and a Tesco Express within a one-minute walk of the hotel entrance. It does not feel like traditional Cambridge, but for keeping children entertained without a car it is easily the most practical option. Hyatt Centric and Turing Locke are in quieter residential areas on the northern edge of the city with very little within walking distance for families.

Question 5

Which family-friendly Cambridge hotel is best if you do not have a car?

Accepted Answer

Travelodge Cambridge Central is the most practical choice for car-free families — it is a 10-minute walk from Cambridge train station and surrounded by restaurants and entertainment. Turing Locke has a direct bus route from a stop two minutes away, but is 70 minutes on foot from the station and not practical without a car for early departures. Hyatt Centric Cambridge is the weakest option without a car, as the station is a 15-minute-plus taxi ride away and costs upwards of £15 each way.

Question 6

Is Cambridge Leisure Park a good base for a family trip to Cambridge?

Accepted Answer

It depends entirely on your expectations. Travelodge Cambridge Central sits inside Cambridge Leisure Park, which offers genuine convenience — bowling, cinema, chain restaurants, and cheap parking all within metres — and is a realistic 10-minute walk from the train station. However, it does not feel like Cambridge; there is no trace of college spires or historic streets. Families after a budget-friendly, activity-packed base will find it works well, but those hoping to be immersed in Cambridge's character should look closer to the city centre.
