    Turing Locke

    Suburban Calm, City Far Away££

    The Radical Truth

Turing Locke sits in a purpose-built mixed-use development on the northern edge of Cambridge, sharing a building with the Hyatt Centric and overlooking a wide, quiet boulevard, a primary school, and planted street trees. It is pristine, peaceful, and completely removed from anything that makes Cambridge worth visiting.

    Who is this hotel for?

    Families with Young Children

Turing Locke is an excellent choice for families with young children in Cambridge.

The hotel offers a safe environment with pushchair-friendly roads, nearby playgrounds, and access to green spaces.

    Dog Owners

This hotel is a great option for dog owners looking for a quiet and accessible area.

With green spaces and low-traffic surroundings, dog owners can enjoy easy walks without busy road navigation.

    Business Travellers with a Car

Turing Locke is well-suited for business travellers with meetings in the northern part of Cambridge.

It provides easy A14 access, on-site parking, and quiet rooms, though not ideal for city centre meetings.

    Conference and University Visitors
    ~

Turing Locke is an acceptable option for conference and university visitors focused on the northern parts of Cambridge.

Location depends on conference type; it may require taxis for visits to some colleges in the historic centre.

    Who Should Not Book

Avoid Turing Locke if you're arriving by train or wanting easy access to Cambridge's historic centre.

It is poorly positioned for train travellers and those focused on central attractions, recommending alternatives instead.

    The Warning

The station problem is real and affects every guest without a car. Cambridge station is 70 minutes on foot, a distance that makes walking with luggage absurd. The one direct bus route provides a workable alternative during the day, but if you have an early train before 7am, there is no local taxi rank and no practical public transport. You must pre-book a taxi the night before. Miss that window and your options disappear. The on-street parking meter was broken at the time of our visit. The app payment system worked without issues, but if you rely on cash or a physical meter, verify the situation before you park.

    The Insider Hack

The Sainsbury's supermarket is a 4-minute walk and opens early. If you are self-catering or want to skip the hotel breakfast, it is the most efficient morning routine available from this address. The in-store Sainsbury's Bank cash machine is the only ATM within reasonable walking distance, so draw cash here if you need it before heading into the city.

Business Park Boulevard: The Honest Truth About Turing Locke's Cambridge Location

Turing Locke sits on a wide, pristine boulevard in a modern mixed-use development on the northern edge of Cambridge. The building is shared with the Hyatt Centric hotel. The address is purpose-built, well-maintained, and completely unlike the Cambridge of postcards. Opposite the entrance: planted street trees, a wide quiet road, dedicated parking bays, and a modern primary school. It is, in the researcher's own words, arriving at a business park suburb, not a Cambridge destination.

That description is not a dismissal. For the right traveller, this location is genuinely excellent. But the right traveller is not someone who came to Cambridge to see Cambridge.

The Boulevard Reality: Safe, Quiet, and Entirely Without Soul

The street is a wide, low-traffic boulevard in a new-build residential development. There are planted trees, smooth pavements, and clean sightlines in every direction. Turn left out of the entrance and you are looking at a well-designed residential area on a corner with almost no traffic. Turn right and you are looking down a wide pavement toward the Hyatt Centric, your nearest neighbour and, essentially, your building-mate.

After 8pm, the street is quiet in the truest sense. Residential calm, no foot traffic, no nightlife, nothing vibrant. It is safe and well-lit, a genuine positive, but the word that keeps returning in the field notes is dead. The two descriptions coexist: safe and pleasant, and also completely without atmosphere. For families and quiet-seekers this is a win. For anyone who came to Cambridge to feel the city, it is a problem.

There are no visible negatives from the entrance. No construction, no delivery conflicts, no noise sources. The primary school opposite means the immediate surroundings are designed around families and low traffic. For guests with young children or pushchairs, the flat, smooth pavements and low-speed roads make this one of the most navigable hotel environments in the city.

    Getting There: The Logistics

    By Taxi

Taxis drop on the street directly outside. There is space available and the approach is straightforward, with no multi-level car parks or one-way tangles to navigate. From Cambridge station, expect a fare of £10–15 for a 17-minute journey. That is the daily reality for guests without a car. There is no taxi rank nearby, so all taxis must be pre-booked, particularly for early morning departures. The Veezu app is widely used in Cambridge and more reliable than Uber for this area. Book the night before if your train is before 7am.

    By Car

This is where Turing Locke earns its strongest rating. Access from the A14 and M11 at the north and west of the city is direct, with easy navigation and under 5 minutes from the main road to parked. Satnav leads directly to the entrance. The approach is flat and unambiguous, with a bus gate on the access road that is clearly marked with a wide area available to turn around, it is obvious and not a hazard if you are paying attention.

On-site paid parking is available, as are dedicated pull-in bays on the street facing the primary school. The cost is £10–20 per 24 hours. The street payment meter was not functioning at the time of our visit, but the app-based payment system worked without issues. If you rely on cash or physical meters, check the current status before parking. Secure covered bicycle parking is also available for cyclists arriving from nearby routes.

There are no EV charging points visible on site. Blue badge spaces are clearly marked. For drivers, this is one of the least stressful hotel arrivals in Cambridge, a significant contrast to the one-way chaos and expensive multi-storeys of the city centre.

On Foot from the Train Station

Don't. Cambridge station is 70 minutes on foot. With luggage, this is not a realistic option for any guest. The route is flat and smooth, the pavements are step-free throughout, but the distance alone makes it impractical. Take the taxi or the bus.

The direct bus route stops under 2 minutes' walk from the entrance, at the Sainsbury's stop. Frequency is reasonable during operating hours. This is the only practical public transport link, and it does not run early enough for trains before 7am.

    By Coach or Bus

The nearest coach stop at Girton Road is a 12-minute walk. The bus stop at Sainsbury's is under 2 minutes away and serves the direct route into the city centre. Shelter at the bus stop is minimal, so plan for exposed waiting in wet weather. There is no covered bus shelter of any substance at this stop.

Who Is This Hotel Actually For?

    Families with Young Children

This is one of the strongest use cases in Cambridge. The flat, smooth pavements are fully pushchair-compatible throughout. The surrounding roads are low-traffic and safe. There is a nearby playground, green space within a 5-minute walk, and the primary school opposite means the entire street environment is designed with children in mind. Dulcedo Social is a 3-minute walk for a coffee while the kids are in the buggy. For families driving in from outside Cambridge, this is a significantly better environment than the city centre hotels, which involve busy pavements, pedestrian-heavy shopping streets, and no parking.

    Dog Owners

Green space is under 5 minutes' walk. The area is quiet, low-traffic, and easy to navigate with a dog. This rates as one of the better Cambridge hotel locations for dog owners who want morning and evening walks without navigating busy roads. Compare this to the Hilton City Centre or Premier Inn City Centre, where the nearest meaningful green space involves crossing several junctions.

    Business Travellers with a Car

If your meetings are at the Cambridge Science Park, Granta Park, or any of the business parks and offices at the north of the city, Turing Locke is well-positioned. Easy A14 access, on-site parking, and quiet rooms make it a strong base for a multi-night working stay. The rating drops for anyone whose meetings are in the city centre or near the station, where the taxi dependency adds friction and cost to every journey.

    Conference and University Visitors

For delegates at conferences based in the northern part of the city, or for those visiting university departments that sit away from the historic centre, the location is acceptable. Note that for college-based visits, proximity depends entirely on which college. For those to the north of the city, the distance is manageable. For King's, Trinity, or Senate House, plan for a taxi each way.

    Who Should Not Book

Anyone arriving by train without a car, particularly for an early departure, should look elsewhere. The station is too far for an independent walk and the taxi dependency becomes expensive and logistically demanding over multiple days. Anyone visiting Cambridge specifically for the historic centre, the colleges, the Corn Exchange, or the riverside should also reconsider. The Premier Inn Cambridge City Centre, the Graduate by Hilton, or the Hilton City Centre all place you within walking distance of the things that make Cambridge worth visiting. Turing Locke does not. Late-night arrivals at the station without a pre-booked taxi face a real problem.

Turing Locke vs Hyatt Centric Cambridge: Same Building, Same Street, Different Proposition

The Hyatt Centric Cambridge is in the same mixed-use development, a few steps from the Turing Locke entrance. In location terms, they are identical. The surrounding streets, the distances, the parking situation, and the neighbourhood character apply equally to both. Neither has a location advantage over the other on this street.

The meaningful difference is format. The Hyatt Centric is a conventional hotel. Turing Locke is an aparthotel, which makes it materially better for extended stays, families who need kitchen facilities, and guests who want to self-cater. For a single overnight stay, the location weaknesses apply equally to both. For a stay of three or more nights, Turing Locke's aparthotel format provides genuine added value that the Hyatt Centric cannot match.

The more useful comparison for budget-conscious guests is the Premier Inn Cambridge North at Girton. It sits in a similar out-of-centre location, offers free parking, and undercuts Turing Locke on price. Turing Locke wins on quality, facilities, and the aparthotel format. If parking cost is the deciding factor and room quality is secondary, the Girton Premier Inn tips in its own favour. If you want a better product with on-site paid parking and a more considered space, Turing Locke is the stronger choice.
